West Ham are on the verge of something extremely special. Whilst they were a little unfortunate to miss out on the final European place the Premier League has to offer this season, they're only a couple of months away from an extremely lucrative move to the Olympic Stadium.

The club's website reports that over 50,000 season tickets have already been sold and it's shaping up to be an extremely good season for the Hammers, who will no doubt want to improve the solid campaign they've had under Slaven Bilic this year.

But, to do that they need to build and bring in some big players. If the number of season tickets sold is anything to go by, it seems that West Ham are entering a new era in their football history. They'll be competing with the big boys in terms of attendances and suddenly a trip to the Olympic Stadium will become a cup final to the smaller teams in the league.

What Bilic must now do is bring in the players to raise that excitement over the top and into overdrive. There is a massive chance for West Ham to solidify themselves as a top-six team at the first chance of asking here, but to do that they need the big names.

It seems that many Hammers supporters were delighted to see the club move so quickly to improve the squad, but were left a little underwhelmed when a bid of around £25m was made for Bournemouth forwards Matt Ritchie and Callum Wilson. Both are fantastic players, but with Wilson having been out all season and only really having two truly successful campaigns in England since he burst onto the scene with Coventry City back in 2009/10, the move has been doubted by some supporters.

However, it's also been reported that the Hammers are on the tail of Alexandre Lacazette, having a bid rejected for the Lyon star. This is a bit more like it: a player that is exciting and has proven Champions League pedigree.

The Hammers just need to throw caution to the wind and go for it in every way possible. They really do have some of the best playing facilities in the league now and if I were David Gold, David Sullivan or Karren Brady, I'd be investing as much as possible to get this era off to the best start possible.

Players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gregory van der Wiel, Sofiane Feghouli and Fernando Torres are all out of contract this summer and will be available for transfer. Whilst wages would be astronomical, there would be no transfer fee involved. It's unrealistic, but why not go for a couple of these names to boost the club's ongoing profile even a little bit more ahead of the new season.

It's now or never West Ham, who've got a great chance to be one of the best. They must seize it.
