Montpellier defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has claimed that he turned down an offer to join Arsenal this summer as he hopes to join AC Milan, according to the Daily Mirror.

Yanga-Mbiwa looked set to move to Italy in the transfer window but a deal wasn’t completed but the 23-year-old hopes to secure the move in January.

The Frenchman is out of contract next summer and so Montpellier are happy to sell, but it seems the player only has one destination in his sights.

Yanga-Mbiwa said: “I rejected an important offer from Arsenal because my desire is to play in Milan.

“Wenger was keen on the subject but I’d rather play in Italy and I hope the clubs can find a solution in January.

“I am sad because I want to play in Milan and Montpellier know this.”

Wenger seems keen to add defenders to his squad and that will be his priority come January.
