Porto defender Nicolas Otamendi remains open to leaving the Portuguese club before Friday’s transfer deadline, despite seeing a loan move to Valencia collapse, reports the Express.

Otamendi has previously been linked with Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, and is understood to be open to a switch to the Premier League.

The Argentine international was close to moving to Spain, but Porto’s demands were too much for Valencia, who remain in financial trouble.

Jose Mourinho is understood to be a big admirer of the 25-year-old, while Manchester City have been linked with a double swoop for Otamendi and his Porto teammate Eliaquim Mangala.

Both clubs are thought to have decided against a move during this transfer window, but Manchester United could yet try and lure the defender to Old Trafford ahead of Friday’s deadline.

David Moyes has made signing a centre back his next priority, although he will have to move quickly to seal the deal, with reports suggesting Valencia are the only club to entered into formal negotiations for the player.

Reports in Portugal also suggest clubs in Italy, France and Spain could all attempt a late swoop, with AC Milan, Monaco and Barcelona previously linked.

Otamendi is keen on making a move this month, so he can attempt to cement his place in the Argentina national side ahead of the summer’s World Cup.
