Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Bayern Munich striker Mario Mandzukic, with Wolfsburg pulling out of the race for his signature, according to the Express.

Mandzukic’s future at the Allianz Arena is in doubt, with Bayern confirming that Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski will be joining them at the end of the season.

Wolfsburg – who sold Mandzukic to Bayern in 2012 – have been linked with a move, but now appear to have ruled themselves out of the running, with general manager Klaus Allofs describing a potential bid as ‘unlikely.’

“A transfer for Mario Mandzukic is unlikely,” Allofs said.
“We will be able to just do a few things and we won’t be able to pay every transfer fee. Of course, we have a good squad and we want to get better.
“It’s a fact we are trying to find a striker that is able to help us a lot up front, there is no doubt about it.”The news is likely to come as a boost for Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, who have all been linked with a move for the Croatian international once the summer transfer window opens.
