Luis Suarez admits the prospect of not playing Champions League football is the real reason why he wants to leave Liverpool, The Sun reports.

Suarez originally cited his supposedly poor treatment by the press, the way The FA handled his racism case against Patrice Evra and the biting incident with Branislav Ivanovic as the main factors for his desire to leave.

But his agent Pere Guardiola revealed that not competing against Europe’s elite was forcing him out of Anfield, after talks with manager Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre.

Arsenal and Chelsea are the leading Premier League clubs interested in the Uruguayan’s signature, with the North Londoners ready to pay £30million for his services.

The Gunners reportedly had an offer turned down for the striker, with the Reds claiming that the 26-year-old is not for sale at any price.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are willing to splash £40million and enter negotiations with the Merseyside club; and manager Jose Mourinho wants to be kept informed over any developments to sign the player.

The Portuguese may take confidence from the fact that former Kop star, Fernando Torres, was lured away from Merseyside for an even greater price of £50m in January 2011.

Suarez is currently on extended leave from the club and is not expected to return until the end of the month.
