Back in 1990, Jean-Marc Bosman did a very revolutionary thing. Out of contract at Standard Liege but with suitors Dunkerque unable to afford his transfer fee, the midfield was stuck in footballing limbo.

Five years and three court cases later, starting with the Belgian FA and ending in the European Court of Justice, the Bosman role was invented, allowing players to move freely and without obligation upon the expiration of their contracts.

It’s altered the balance of power in the transfer market ever since,  and Premier League clubs now have the benefit of snapping up stars and starlets with no fee required.

So proving you don’t always have to splash the cash to improve your team, Football FanCast have drawn up this squad of XI bosman-bound stars from the English top flight.
