Manchester City and Arsenal are continuing to keep a close eye on Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who is still struggling first-team action at the Bernabeu, according to reports from The Express.

The Spanish international and Los Blancos captain found himself frozen out of the club’s starting XI last season under Jose Mourinho, who often elected to field Diego Lopez between the sticks.

The arrival of new manager Carlo Ancelotti was expected to change this, but the Italian has also chosen to leave Casillas on his bench – despite the player’s status as one of the world’s best glovesmen.

The 32-year-old is now growing concerned that his struggles will begin to affect his career ahead of the 2014 World Cup, and is already thinking about a potential move.

Barcelona’s Victor Valdes and Napoli star Pepe Reina continue to play regularly ahead of the showpiece tournament, which could see either player take the number one jersey for the defending champions in Brazil.

City and Arsenal are both ready to offer Casillas regular action, and could tempt him with winter moves.

Manuel Pellegrini is believed to be keen to draft in a top class ‘keeper after growing frustrated with Joe Hart, while Arsene Wenger has had long-standing concerns surrounding the ability of Wojciech Szczesny.
