Tottenham and Arsenal are readying moves for Danny Welbeck, with reports from the London Evening Standard claiming that Manchester United are ready to sell the striker.

The England international appears to be behind Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez in the race for a starting berth under Louis van Gaal, and he will slip further down the pecking order when Robin van Persie is back to full fitness.

Welbeck – who has 20 goals in 90 league outings to his name – was frequently used in a wide attacking role under Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes, yet in the club’s new 3-4-1-2 set-up such a position is not available, which may seriously limit his opportunities.

As a result United are read to offload him, which has alerted Spurs and Arsenal.

The north London duo are both tracking the £15m-rated star and have been buoyed by the fact he’s soon to be in the last 18 months of his contract.

Welbeck himself is rumoured to be ready to move on, and an unnamed source told the newspaper that the Old Trafford giants are open to a deal:

“Danny has an astonishing strike rate for United and he has now reached a stage where he deserves to be playing first-team football or else his England career will suffer as well.

“United are happy to let him go but would prefer it was to a club that won’t be fighting for a Champions League place by the end of the season.

“But the reality is that there are plenty of top clubs who will be very interested in signing Danny.”
