Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Joel Campbell will not be leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer and will be given a chance to impress.

The Costa Rican forward rose to prominence during the World Cup, spearheading his nation’s attack as they reached that quarter-finals for the first time in their history.

He has since been linked with fresh loan moves – he has spent the last three campaigns away from London – but has always maintained that he wants to prove himself with the Gunners.

Campbell netted in a 5-1 pre-season win over Benfica yesterday, and Wenger has stated that his talented 22-year-old is going nowhere:

“He [Campbell] is not available for transfer, or loan. I want to keep him,” he is quoted by The Metro.

Campbell recently said that he believes he’s “good enough” to be an Arsenal player, and could play a back-up role to Olivier Giroud with Wenger having not yet signed an orthodox striker this summer.

The Central American star was signed from Deportivo Saprissa in 2011, but work permit issues and a need for experience saw him spend time with Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiakos.
