Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has opened talks with Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier, according to reports from The Metro.

The 21-year-old Ivorian has been one of Ligue 1’s standout performers in recent times, attracting attention form a host of top clubs from across Europe.

Arsenal are just one name to have been aligned with the defender, and it has now emerged that Wenger met with his agent last week.

It is understood that discussions went smoothly, which could prompt a serious offer when the transfer window opens.

The Frenchman is desperate to find a replacement for current right-back Bacary Sagna, who is looking likely to leave the Emirates Stadium for free once his contract expires in a few months’ time.

Although Aurier is a key man at Toulouse, it is believed that the club are resigned to the reality that they may well be unable to keep their star defender for next season.

He is valued at around £10m, which s a sum within Arsenal’s budget for the coming window.

The youngster has been lauded for his pace and strength, and has won seven senior international caps for the Ivory Coast.
