Marca.

The Gunners are known to be in the market for a new stopper, and have been strongly linked with Valencia’s Vicente Guaita over the course of the past week.

But with a deal looking unlikely to be finalised, Arsene Wenger is ready to switch his attention to Spanish captain Casillas.

The 32-year-old has endured a turbulent 2013 with Real, often being dropped to the bench in favour of Diego Lopez under former boss Jose Mourinho.

New coach Carlo Ancelotti started his reign in the same manner, which has prompted speculation that Casillas could be on the move.

Wenger is believed to have been alerted by this, and has made contact with the La Liga giants regarding the 149-time Spanish international.

It is unclear as to whether the two-time European Championship winner would consider leaving his boyhood club, but with the 2014 World Cup – a competition that Spain are hopeful of winning – around the corner, he could be tempted by guaranteed first-team football.

Casillas has even been the subject of speculation linking him with a move to Real’s major rivals Barcelona, who are planning for life without Victor Valdes.

Arsenal fans, could Iker Casillas be your new hero?
