Arsenal are watching Standard Liege striker Michy Batshuayi, according to reports from DHnews.

The 20-year-old has recently emerged as one of Belgium’s top young attacking talents following a string of impressive first-team displays for his club and five goals in 11 appearances at U-21 international level.

His fledgling displays have alerted Arsene Wenger, who is believed to be looking at potential striking additions ahead of the winter transfer window.

Current Gunners first choice centre-forward Olivier Giroud is currently short on support, with Danish flop Nicklas Bendtner – who netted during the Londoners’ 2-0 win against Hull – the club’s only genuine alternative to the Frenchman.

While the likes of Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema are on Wenger’s radar, it is thought that the Emirates Stadium chief is also monitoring more cost-effective options, including Batshuayi.

Standard’s president, Roland Duchatelet confessed that Arsenal are one of a number of sides watching the youngster, but went on to say that he will not be sold any time soon.

“What is new is the interest of Arsenal, although Arsenal are just one of many clubs who are chasing our striker Michy. Anyway, we are not willing to let go Michy this season,” Duchatelet said.

Batshuayi – who has netted 12 goals in 17 outings this season – may be tempted by a switch to the Premier league to mirror the progress of compatriots Romelu Lukaku and Christian Benteke, which could force Standard to sell.
