Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Simon RuffierArsenal are monitoring Saint-Etienne duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Simon Ruffier, according to reports from The Mirror.

Representatives from the Gunners travelled to France on Friday night to watch the attacker and goalkeeper in action, as manager Arsene Wenger prepares a summer overhaul of his squad in a bid to challenge for next season’s Premier League title.

Aubameyang is believed to be one of the Londoners’ main targets, with his razor-sharp Ligue 1 form alerting the club.

The attacker, who is a product of AC Milan’s youth set-up, has netted an impressive 16 goals in 27 top-flight appearances, leading to speculation surrounding his future.

Saint-Etienne reportedly knocked back an advance from Newcastle in January, but will be unlikely to be able to keep hold of their star man this summer.

Ruffier has also caught Wenger’s eye, with a series of impressive displays between the sticks for the Champions League chasing club.

With doubts surrounding Wojciech Szczesny’s ability, Arsenal have been linked with a number of goalkeeping alternatives in recent times.

Only big-spending Paris Saint-Germain have a better defensive record than Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 this term, with Ruffier a key cog in their solid unit.

Aubameyang is said to be valued at around £12m, but the French side have not hinted at an acceptable value for their stopper.
