Arsenal are plotting a surprise move for Colombian full-back Pablo Armero, according to reports from ESPN.

The Napoli man spent the latter half of last season on loan at West Ham, making five appearances for the Irons.

He has since returned to Serie A with Udinese, as they bought out Napoli’s co-ownership of his rights, but it is understood that the Italian giants are ready to offload the 27-year-old.

Arsenal are thought to have been alerted by this, with Arsene Wenger eyeing a new left-back to accompany Mathieu Debuchy’s imminent arrival on the opposite side of the backline.

Although he failed to truly establish himself at Upton Park, Armero was impressive in his nation’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals, netting a goal in the 3-0 win over Greece.

Sources close to the player have revealed that he’s desperate for another spell in the Premier League, which may allow the Gunners to lure him to north London.

Southampton are also keen as they plot for life without Luke Shaw – who recently completed a £30m switch to Manchester United.
