Arsenal hopes of luring Kiko Casilla to the Emirates Stadium have taken a blow, after Espanyol manager Javier Aguirre ruled out selling the goalkeeper.

The Gunners have been linked with the Spanish stopper over the course of the past few days, with Arsene Wenger said to have made a new number one one of his transfer priorities.

Casilla – who enjoyed a successful 2012/13 La Liga campaign – has emerged as one of the Frenchman’s top targets.

It has been speculated that Wenger could open the bidding for the 26-year-old this week, but Aguirre says that Espanyol will not be selling:

“Casilla cannot go, not that one,” he told Marca.

“I see him very much involved and believe he will not go although it is very appealing.”

Wenger is also said to be keen on Valencia’s Vicente Guaita and Real Madrid hero Iker Casillas – both of whom could be available before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal’s current first choice ‘keeper, Wojciech Szczesny, has seen his position under threat for some time, with some shaky displays having earned him criticism in the past.

Wenger is keen to replace the Pole, and was even linked with a move for Liverpool’s Pepe Reina – who instead joined Napoli on loan – earlier this summer.
