Fernando Amorebieta

Fernando Amorebieta is one of many transfer targets for Arsenal this summer, according to The Mirror.

The Athletico Bilbao defender is considered one of the best in La Liga and is now available on a free transfer this summer, after the Spanish club withdrew their contract offer.

After eight years playing for the Spanish club and notching up over 250 appearances, it appears that a parting of the ways is likely this summer and there is no shortage of takers.

The Venezuelan has been watched in recent weeks by the scouts from Arsenal, as well as Russian side Anzhi, and according to his agent Gines Carvajal it appears to be a straight fight between the two clubs this summer.

“We have had some contacts with Anzhi, they were ready to make a good offer, but my client wants to play in England, so the transfer to Russia was not possible. We are in talks with Arsenal, he could join them in June.”

It looks like Arsenal will have to fight it out with Anzhi to bring Amorebieta to the Emirates in the summer, but with the player desiring a Premier League move then it seems like they might win this one particular transfer race.
