Arsenal are planning an ambitious summer move for Everton full-back Seamus Coleman as they plan for life without Bacary Sagna, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The French defender’s long awaited Bosman switch to Manchester City was confirmed a few days ago, which leaves the Gunners short on cover in the role.

Toulouse’s Serge Aurier has been the mooted target to replace Sagna, but now Coleman’s name is also in the frame.

The Republic of Ireland defender was one of the Premier League’s standout performers last term, playing a key role in Everton’s impressive fifth placed finish.

The 25-year-old has been a Toffees player since 2009 and his contract still has four years to run, but the London club could look to offer him Champions League football in a bid to get him to make the move.

The Merseysiders are unlikely to entertain the concept of letting their man head off, but if Coleman pushes for a deal then their hands may be tied.

As well as the Irishman, Southampton’s Callum Chambers is also a name being mentioned.
