Petr Cech Chelsea Goalkeeper

Arsenal are being linked with a surprise move for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger is keen to replace goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny next season, after dropping him in recent weeks for Lukasz Fabianski. And after impressing in England’s capital every year, Wenger is ready for an audacious bid to bring the Czech Republic ‘keeper to the Emirates.

Cech’s future with the Blues remains in doubt, with continued suggestions that star youngster Thibaut Courtois could replace Cech next season, as the Belgian’s loan spell with Atletico Madrid expires at the end of the season. This could leave Cech without first team football in August, which could be enough to tempt him in a move to Arsenal.

The 30-year-old’s deal expires in 2016, but he could be tempted to leave early if he was regularly left on the bench. However, the chances of Chelsea agreeing to sell the goalkeeper to one of their local rivals seem slim.

The Gunners have also been linked with Liverpool’s Pepe Reina, Swansea’s Michel Vorm and Barcelona’s Victor Valdes over recent months. But with Cech already settled in London, he may be the easiest to lure to Arsenal.

Szczesny will struggle to regain his number one position at the club, after he was dropped for both fixtures against Bayern Munich, arguably Arsenal’s biggest games of the season. With Fabianski now starting ahead of the Pole, this may be the end of Szczesny’s reign as number one keeper at Arsenal.
