Arsenal misfit rejected January move
The Brazilian has failed to adapt to life with the Gunners following his 2011 arrival from Fenerbahce, leading to speculation that he may have been allowed to leave last month.
Reports have now emerged that Gala offered him an escape route from his Arsenal hell, but he rejected the move.
It is unclear as to why he was unwilling to move to Istanbul where first-team opportunities would have, likely, been much easier to come by, but some have speculated that he is looking to force his way into Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.
This would appear to be difficult, with the club having signed Ignacio Monreal, with current first-choice left-back Kieran Gibbs injured.
It is thought that Galatasaray will return with a summer bid in an attempt to lure the 29-year-old back to Turkey, where he was impressive for their major rivals.
Santos signed for Arsenal on a long-term contract on the deadline day of 2011’s summer transfer window, as Wenger set about addressing immediate concerns regarding his squad.
After forcing his way into the Brazilian national team, much was expected of the defender, but he failed to adapt to Premier League football.
