Daily Star.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is expected to delve into the transfer market this winter, and is thought to have made a new striker and centre-back his major targets.

After successfully luring Mesut Ozil to the Emirates Stadium from Real, the Frenchman is now ready to move for Benzema and Varane, with FIFA agent Francois Gallardo suggesting that he is keen on the pair:

“Arsenal want to reinforce in the winter and will go for Benzema and Varane,” he said.

“Karim is the darling of Wenger, who is obsessed with him.”

Benzema was heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal over the summer, but the player was keen to stay at the Bernabeu.

However, with Real circling Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, he may be more open to a move in a bid to secure regular action.

Varane is also on Wenger’s wish list.

The 20-year-old is recognised as one of the world’s top emerging defenders, and is highly-rated in the Spanish capital.

A deal is likely be almost impossible, but the Londoners may still attempt to lure him away from Los Blancos.

Could Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane turn Arsenal into England’s strongest club side?
