Arsenal are plotting a late raid for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The French international – also a target for Manchester City – looks set to leave the Parc des Prices in the coming days with Yohan Cabaye due to arrive in a £20m deal.

Matuidi has been a key member of PSG midfield for some time, but with his contract due to expire in six months’ time it makes more sense for the Ligue 1 champions to sell now rather than allow him to leave for free – despite their vast wealth.

Arsene Wenger is set to up his desire to land an enforcer to anchor his engine room in the coming days after losing Mathieu Flamini to suspension and Aaron Ramsey to injury.

Matuidi is seen as an ideal addition, and the sort of player who can slot seamlessly into Arsenal’s midfield as they look to maintain their title push.

The 26-year-old is likely to jump at the chance to move, with Cabaye’s switch to PSG likely to limit his chances of regular action in the build-up to the World Cup.

City are also keen, and could look to mount a rival swoop before the close of play on Friday.
