Arsenal are considering a shock move for wantaway Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The enigmatic Bulgarian recently announced via his agent that he is looking to leave Craven Cottage, with a switch to another Premier League side his ultimate goal.

This has alerted Arsene Wenger, who is keen to dip into the transfer market next month in a bid to provide the in-form Olivier Giroud with some support.

The French forward has been the Gunners’ only top class central striker so far this term, and his manager is thought to be concerned that an injury or lengthy suspension could derail the Londoners’ title push.

Berbatov – who made his name in England with Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham – is thought to be seen as a genuine option.

Although he has been criticised for his lack of work rate, the former Manchester United man certainly has the technical ability to contribute to the Emirates Stadium-based side’s playing style, and has extensive experience in both the Champions League and Premier League.

Fulham chief Rene Meulensteen ahs already admitted that he will not block Berbatov’s potential exit, and the soon to be 33-year-old is unlikely to command a major transfer fee.
