Arsenal are plotting a January move for Schalke starlet Julian Draxler, according to reports from Goal.

Gunners chief Arsene Wenger is desperate to add to his attacking ranks in the coming weeks in bid to keep his side’s push for the Premier League title on course after losing Theo Walcott for the remainder of the season through a knee injury.

Draxler has been on the Londoners’ radar for some time, with rumours having suggested that he was considered as a potential signing over the summer.

Wenger instead opted for Mesut Ozil, but he has remained keen on the 20-year-old.

Draxler is primarily an attacking midfielder who is comfortable on either flank, but Arsenal are confident that he could be converted to play as a centre-forward.

Wenger has previously done this with Thierry Henry, who arrived at the club as a winger but developed into one of the world’s best strikers.

An end of season move has been mooted for some time, but the Emirates Stadium side are instead ready to explore a deal in the coming weeks

Draxler has a £40m buyout clause in his contract, but Wenger is keen to negotiate a figure some way below that.

Such a swoop would be a major coup for Arsenal, with a umber of other top European clubs also keen on the young playmaker.
