Arsenal have sensationally pulled out of a deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to the BBC’s David Ornstein.

Reports over the weekend suggested a £24million fee had been agreed by both clubs and Arsenal were preparing to unveil their new signing on Monday afternoon.

But Ornstein is reporting that Arsene Wenger has decided to pull out of the deal, presumably because of the German international’s excessive wage demands, which are believed to be in the region of £150,000-£200,000-a-week.

Real Madrid are thought to be eager to offload the 27-year-old following the arrival of Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos last week, but will understandably be frustrated with the player’s wage demands.

However, Wenger’s reluctance to meet Khedira’s request could mean he has his sights on an alternative, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin both heavily linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are expected to announce the arrival of OGC Nice stopper David Ospina after £3.2m fee had been agreed for the Columbian World Cup star.
