Arsenal receive boost in Villa pursuit
Arsenal’s chances of completing a summer move for Barcelona striker David Villa have received a boost with news that the Spaniards are willing to sell.
Although a move failed to materialise, rumours are still circulating that manager Arsene Wenger will return with another bid for his services at the end of the season.
Despite hoping to keep hold of Villa, Barca vice-president Josep Maria Baromeu has said that the player will not be forced to stay at the club against his wishes:
“The coaches hope he is here next season but we will not retain any player that is uncomfortable. In that case, we will talk to him to seek a solution.” He is quoted by The Metro.
Villa has struggled to force himself into the Catalan giants’ first-team following a leg-break suffered last season.
He has managed 22 appearances this term, scoring seven goals in the process.
Arsenal are believed to have made a late approach to sign the Spaniard last month, but their offer was knocked back, with Barca keen to keep their squad together for the remainder of the season.
