The 28-year-old Senegal international was close to making the switch to Arsenal in the summer before Blues boss Jose Mourinho opted to keep him at Stamford Bridge at the last minute.

Wenger has been a long-term admirer of Ba and also tried to tempt him to the Emirates Stadium when the striker was at Newcastle United, but Ba chose a move to Chelsea last January instead.

But the Arsenal boss is not ready to give up on the front-man and, despite Olivier Giroud enjoying a strong start to the season for the Gunners, is expected to return with a loan bid in January, with the view of making the deal permanent in the summer for around £5million.

It is thought Ba would welcome a move to Arsenal, especially with his chances at Stamford Bridge looking increasingly slim so far this season with just one top-flight appearance under Mourinho.

Ba arrived in England in January 2011 when he joined West Ham on a free transfer from Hoffenheim. The striker netted seven times in 12 Premier League appearances but was unable to prevent the Hammers from relegation, which led to him activated his relegation-release clause in his contract.

After he bagged 29 goals in 54 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United, Ba earned a mega-money move to Chelsea but has only managed two goals in 15 top-flight appearances for the Blues, leaving his Chelsea future hanging by a thread.

Roma and Atletico Madrid are also rumoured to be interested in ending Ba’s Chelsea nightmare.
