Former Arsenal manager George Graham has called on Arsene Wenger to rest players for their ‘impossible’ Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, and focus entirely on the title race, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners head to Germany trailing 0-2 from the first leg at the Emirates, and Graham feels Wenger’s side are incapable of overcoming such a deficit against the Champions League holders.

And Arsenal face three crucial games against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City after returning from Munich, in what is sure to be a key phase of their Premier League title challenge.

“One of the questions facing Arsene is whether they play their best team and try to win the tie, which is near impossible, or concentrate on the league,” Graham said.

“Personally I’d play a weakened team because I think the second half of the first leg was like a practice match for Bayern.

“It took a lot out of Arsenal and they have some very tough games coming up. They need fresh legs and fresh minds.

“This is one of the big decisions managers have to make.”

Graham also called on Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil to bounce back from his penalty miss in the first leg, and believes the pace of the English game has caught up with the German international.

“When he first came into the team he was outstanding and gave a lift to the rest of the players,” he added.

“But his form has dipped very much and I think the pace and intensity of the English game have caught up with him. He looks sad now and mentally he needs to come back.”
