Bacary Sagna has confirmed rumours that he will leave Arsenal when his contract ends in a few weeks’ time, with a move to Manchester City likely.

The France international – who will represent his nation at the World Cup – has been strongly linked with a Bosman switch away from the Emirates Stadium in recent months.

Although the Gunners were desperate to keep him, and agreement surrounding wages could not be reached, with Sagna holding out for a rumoured £100,000-per-week to extend his stay in north London.

He has been linked with the likes of Monaco, PSG and Galatasaray, but a switch to City appears to be the most probable outcome, with speculation suggesting that a deal has been all but agreed.

Sagna confirmed that he is set to leave Arsene Wenger’s team in the not too distant future, and that his situation will be resolved before the start of the World Cup:

“It’s no longer a secret, I will leave Arsenal for sure,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“They tried to make an effort, but the discussions have not gone in the direction I wished it.

“It was an honour to grow in the shirt. Arsenal is a club that brought me a lot, both as a person and as a sportsman. Even though we had been criticised for quite some time due to the lack of trophies, I spent some magical moments. If I had to do, I’d do it again.

“There are a lot of calls, a lot of speculation. Frankly, it gives headaches. I’ll sort it all out that before the start of the World Cup.”
