Arsenal star in race to be fit for Champions League clash
Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is expected to be fit to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-sixteen round despite picking up a knock in Saturday’s win over Sunderland, The Guardian reports.
The 21-year-old collided with Sunderland’s Alfred N’Diaye at the beginning of the second half and had to leave the pitch with a pronounced limp and what looked like a thigh injury.
The damage however, is thought to be superficial and the midfielder will be ready to play Bayern in optimum condition, although Arsene Wenger will probably rest him this weekend for the FA Cup tie against Blackburn.
French defender Laurent Koscielny could also sit out against Rovers after being monitored with a calf strain, but he should be in a condition to return to the starting XI against the current Bundesliga leaders.
Spanish youngster Ignasi Miquel could replace Koscielny should Wenger decide to give the Frenchman a break.
Thomas Vermaelen’s case is more complex and it seems a bit early to assess if the Belgian will be ready to play Bundesliga leaders.
Vermaelen has had an anti-inflammatory injection in his ankle in order to avoid surgery and now faces a race to be fit for next Tuesday duel against the Germans.
