Arsenal’s hopes of re-signing Carlos Vela from Real Sociedad this summer have taken a knock, with the player insisting that he feels more settled in Spain than he ever did in London.

The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move to bring the Mexican forward back to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, with Arsene Wenger understood to have been impressed with his progress since his switch to the Anoeta three years ago.

The move was initially a loan one, however in 2012 the Frenchman sanctioned his full sale with a £3.5m buy-back clause inserted into the deal.

Reports from Spain have suggested that Arsenal will trigger that with an offer in the coming weeks, but Vela – who netted just 11 goals in 62 displays for the London club – says that he is settled at Sociedad and that he did not enjoy his previous spell under Wenger:

“I never felt comfortable in London and I never enjoyed it,” he is quoted by talkSPORT.

“However, when I got to Sociedad, I found a place where I was very happy, where I’m enjoying myself every day.

“The English game is very straightforward. Here, the difference is that there are more touches of the ball and that benefits me.”
