Arsenal are ready to push ahead with a move for Southampton starlet Callum Chambers, despite being close to snapping up Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Gunners are due to follow up the big money swoop for Alexis Sanchez by welcoming the French right-back to the Emirates Stadium, in what looks to be a big summer of activity in north London.

But even though Debuchy has been dubbed as the heir to Bacary Sagna, Arsene Wenger still wants long-term target, Chambers.

The 19-year-old defender broke through into the Saints’ first-team last term, and is seen as the latest top talent to emerge from the club’s academy.

The teenager is hailed as a great prospect by the Frenchman, who is keen to embed him in his squad slowly over the coming years.

Carl Jenkinson may even be allowed to move on to clear room, with a switch to Newcastle in the pipeline.

Arsenal have a history of snapping up youngsters from Southampton, with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having swapped Hampshire for London in recent times.

These other teams should try developing their own talent rather than nicking ours. Parasites that do nothing for the British game.
