Arsenal will break wage cap to bring in stars
Arsenal are planning to break their wage structure in the summer in order to aid Wenger’s plan to boost his ailing squad.
Arsenal have always been quite strict on their spending and there is a wage cap of £100k a week in place, but it is thought that they will relax the purse-strings a little in order to bring better quality players into the club before next season, reports The Daily Mail.
Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski are the highest paid players at Arsenal on £100k a week but Robin van Persie was offer £140,000 a week to stay at Arsenal last season, which showed that they are willing to be more lenient.
The Gunners have targeted Stevan Jovetic amongst other players to strengthen the squad and his wages are currently £140,000 a week. They will also look to add 3 or 4 new players including a proven goalkeeper and a defensive midfielder.
The North London club have the 4th highest wage bill in the Premier League and some would say this is mostly wasted on unwanted players. To make way for new additions, Arsenal will sell and release some of their under-performing players that haven’t featured this year – giving them an extra £7.5million a season.
Andrey Arsharvin and Sebastian Squallaci are set to be the first out of the door when their contracts expire at the end of the season but Arsenal will also expect the departures of Bacary Sagna, Nicklas Bendnter, Andre Santos, Johan Djourou, Ju-young Park, Marouane Chamakh, Emmanuel Frimpong and Denilson which would free up a further £24million.
Arsene Wenger will have around £70million to spend this summer after the club revealed that they are £123million in profit at the moment with the board insisting that Wenger has plenty of cash to spend this summer.
