Arsenal manager arsene wengerArsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on his players to bounce back from their shock FA Cup defeat to Blackburn.

The home loss has all but finished the Gunners’ hopes of ending their eight-year trophy drought this season, with only the Champions League left to play for.

However, Wenger, whose side take on Bayern Munich in European competition midweek, believes that his side will recover from the set-back and kick-start their campaign:

“The season is not over. For you maybe, not for me.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.

“If we feel sorry for ourselves we would be completely wrong. We have a massive game on Tuesday night and we have to show that we some response in the team.”

Arsenal’s fifth round exit was the latest in a long line of shock results in this year’s tournament.

However, the Frenchman was not consoled by this fact and was very disappointed by the performance of his side and the result they achieved:

“We were not good enough. It’s as simple as that.

“Not one defeat is acceptable. You are in this job to win every single game.

“I couldn’t see how we could lose the game because we had a lot of the ball and they had one shot on goal but they defended well and it’s the kind of game you can lose if you make a mistake at the back like we did.”

Arsenal were booed by some sections of their supporters after the game, with the crowd clearly upset by the performance.

Wenger understood their reaction and felt it was justified:

“What do you expect, people to applaud when you lose a game like that? It’s absolutely normal.”
