Arsene Wenger reveals concerns after defeat
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that he is concerned by the impact defeat in the North London derby has had on his squad.
The Gunners slipped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday, leaving them five points adrift of Champions League qualification.
The result also means the Wenger’s side have secured just four points from seven games against top four rivals this term.
As well as league struggles, Arsenal have been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions by Bradford and Blackburn.
With his side carrying a 3-1 deficit into next week’s European tie away at Bayern Munich, the Frenchman revealed that he is concerned with how his players may react after their high profile defeats:
“I am not worried about us potentially coming back against Bayern, I am more worried about consequences that could manifest in the heads of our players.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.
“You will never know how they can absorb those blows and how the team responds to disappointment. This is the most worrying aspect for me.”
Wenger went on to claim that his side have the necessary experience to secure a spot in the Champions League next season, but also confessed that the disappointment of recent defeats has left him feeling deflated:
“From the experience of how to handle the end of the season, we know how to deal with that. We have had lots of experience.
“Of course, you are not feeling great if you can’t win, but we can stay solid or crack under the pressure.
“I can’t tell you that I feel great right now because my job is about winning games and when you lose you will not find a single coach in this world who feels good.”
