Barcelona striker David Villa will request a transfer in the summer in order to push through his move to Arsenal, according to The Sun.

Villa looked set to join the Gunners in January but a deal could not be struck between the North London club and the Spanish league leaders.

Arsene Wenger is preparing a £14million bid for the deadly striker even though it is £2million below the Catalans asking price.

However with just a year left on his contract when the summer comes around, Villa is expected to request that the bid is accepted and do all he can to make sure the transfer happens.

Villa has become a regular substitute at the Nou Camp after recovering from a long term injury but has already scored ten goals in all competitions.

The Spaniard will be offered a usually long three of four year deal at the Emirates and will be guaranteed of first team football.
