Bayern Munich have warned Arsenal not to bother with a bid for striker Mario Mandzukic, according to the Metro.

The Croatia international is set to be relegated to second choice striker next season, when Robert Lewandowski completes his transfer from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

That has seen Arsenal linked with a possible summer move, with Arsene Wenger making the signing of a new striker a transfer priority.

However Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer has warned the Gunners they will be wasting their time with a bid, as the 27-year-old remains very much a part of the club’s future plans.

“Nobody even has to bother making an approach for Mandzukic,” Sammer told Sky90.

“He is incredibly important to Bayern. I always affectionately say that he plays like an animal.

“It is simply amazing how much work he does for the team and how much running he does during a game.

“They always try to provoke him because he really hurts his opponents with his work-rate.”
