Former Arsenal manager George Graham believes that his old club’s attacking set-up is “embarrassing” in the wake of their FA Cup win over the weekend.

The Gunners came back from 2-0 down against Hull at Wembley, with goals from Santi Cazorla, Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey, while forwards Olivier Giroud and Yaya Sanogo endured relatively quiet games.

The former was the Londoners’ main source of goals last term in the Premier League, but his 16 efforts across the campaign was a contributing factor in the Arsene Wenger’s side ending 2013/14 as the lowest scorers in the top four after an initial title push.

Graham believes that although they broke their nine-year trophy hoodoo on Saturday, his old side must spend big and improve their attack if thy are to build and move forward:

“They have won a trophy. Now they have got to move on and they have got to improve the team. I don’t think there’s any doubt it needs improving,” he told talkSPORT.

“Arsenal are a big club and they need to have a mindset which centres around winning more trophies. To do that, they need to improve the team.

“Up front, it is embarrassing the lack of quality forwards they have got there. They have only had [Olivier] Giroud this season, whose form has been up and down. Although he has been a good signing, his form has not been good enough to [help Arsenal win the title].”

“They apparently have a lot of money to spend and they need to spend it very wisely and buy special players. Maybe players that are going to cost £30million, £40million, £50million, rather than taking a chance on a £10million or £12m player.”

Arsenal have been linked with Karim Benzema of Real Madrid of late, but the French international will cost around £40m.
