Former Arsenal star Eduardo says that he would be open to a return to the Emirates Stadium amid rumours that Arsene Wenger is looking for a new striker.

The Croatian international spent three years in North London prior to joining Shakhtar Donetsk in 2010, netting 21 goals in a spell that was defined by a horror injury.

The 30-year-old’s spell in Ukraine looks set to come to an end in six months’ time, with his current deal due to expire.

With his adopted nation – the forward was born in Brazil – in the World Cup, Eduardo is keen to play regularly between now and the end of the season, which may not be possible in Eastern Europe.

Arsenal are in need of attacking reinforcements, with Nicklas Bentner and Theo Walcott’s injuries having left them short of cover in the final third.

As a result, the experienced hit-man has opened the door for a Gunners return by claiming that he would jump at the chance to sign for Wenger’s side:

“Of course I’d like to go back to Arsenal,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“I don’t know anything about their interest, but everybody knows that when I left, everything was done in a friendly manner.

“I’m still friends with Arsene Wenger and have spoken to him several times. I still have many friends that live in London too.

“I want to play more ahead of the World Cup.”

Have him back in a flash. I didn’t want him to leave in the first place. He loves us and we love him. Remember the reception he got.
