Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is weighing up a January move to Bundesliga outfit Schalke, according to the Daily Mail.

The Polish international has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates, after a return to form for fellow countryman Woijech Szczesny, and the loan signing of Emiliano Viviano.

Fabianski has been at Arsenal since 2007, but has only managed 69 appearances. The Pole has featured as a back up to Jens Lehmann, Manuel Almunia, and now Szczesny.

It seemed as though he was set to finally claim the number one spot for his own during a run as first choice towards the end of last season.

Fabianski even managed a clean sheet away to Bayern Munich, which could have proven the performance to attract attention from the Bundesliga.

Schalke are in the market for a new goalkeeper after losing faith with long term number one Timo Hilderbrand.

The 34-year-old has conceded 24 goals in just 12 Bundesliga matches so far this season, and has also struggled in the Champions League.

He came under fire for his performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where his dithering with the ball allowed Samuel Eto’o to charge down his clearance and score.

He also has just six months to run on his current deal, which is unlikely to be renewed.

Schalke have been linked with Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas, due to the connections former forward Raul has with Real Madrid.

However it seems Fabianski remains a more realistic target.

Schalke coach Horst Heldt has been alerted to his availability following comments made by Poland coach Adam Nawalka who said: “Lukasz told me recently that he wants to change clubs.”
