Gunners reject star return

Arsenal are to continue in their pursuit of Victor Wanyama and will resist the opportunity to re-sign Alex Song in the summer.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is searching for a defensive midfielder this summer and Celtic’s Victor Wanyama is top of his shopping list despite Alex Song requesting a move back to the North London club, according to the Daily Star.
Cameroon’s Song left Arsenal in the summer for Barcelona but he has failed to make an impression there, managing only eight starts this season. With Sergio Busquets to compete with for a first team place, Song always had a challenge ahead of him at the Catalan club but he hasn’t been able to establish himself within the starting XI and wants to return to The Emirates.
The Gunners boss still hasn’t replaced Alex Song and it is thought that he will be likely to turn down his request for a move back in favour of signing Wanyama. Wenger questioned Song’s attitude and commitment before he sold the player and it is thought that this has been influential in his decision to reject the move.
Wanyama, who has been described as a ‘grittier’ version of Alex Song, has been a target of Wenger’s for a while. It is believed that he tried to discuss a move with Celtic in January, but they refused to sell the star. He will try again in the summer and Celtic boss Neil Lennon admits he will struggle to turn down a good offer and is resigned to the possibility that he could lose the player.
It is though that Arsenal will offer Celtic around £10million for the midfielder.
