Swansea defender Ashley Williams is ready to leave the club this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old is ready to call an end on his Swans career, with Arsenal set renew their interest at the end of the season. The Gunners held two meetings with Williams last summer, only for the deal to fall through after the late transfer of Mesut Ozil.

But with Thomas Vermaelen, who has struggled for game time at the Emirates, expected to put in a transfer request this summer, the Gunners could return for Williams just 12 months after missing out on him. The Swansea defender feels now is the best time for him to move up in the league, before he reaches his thirties.

Williams’ contract expires at the end of next season, and the Welshman doesn’t intend to extend his stay with Swansea. The Welsh club will then need to decide if they want to sell Williams this summer and take a transfer fee, or risk losing the defender for free next summer.

The Gunners are currently in 4th place, but their title challenge took a serious knock when they drew with Swansea on Tuesday night. Anything but a win against Manchester City today will all but finish their title dream.
