Jenkinson blames lack of consistency for Arsenal struggles
Arsenal full-back Carl Jenkinson believes that a lack of consistency has been the club’s problem this season.
But Jenkinson refused to be too downbeat about the club’s failings, insisting that all they need to do is find some consistency to challenge the very best teams:
“On our day we can beat anyone,” he told the club’s official website.
“I genuinely believe that. When we play to our potential, teams can’t come near us, but we need to do that consistently.
“I’m distraught, to be honest. I know the importance of the derby. In history, we’ve always tended to come out on top but it wasn’t our day.”
With their current position, Arsenal look set to miss out on Champions League qualification for the first time under the management of Arsene Wenger.
But, Jenkinson insists that the race for the top four is far from over and that there is still time to mount a late charge:
“There are 10 games left and there are plenty of points to play for.
“I think in a couple of days’ time, we’ll get our head around this and realise that we’ve bridged a gap like that before and can do it again. Everyone is disappointed we lost.”
Jenkinson has been relatively impressive this season, becoming a valued member of Arsenal’s first-team squad.
His performances even saw him receive an England cap, with Roy Hodgson fielding the former Charlton star against Sweden in November.
