Real Sociedad forward Carlos Vela believes that Arsenal should trigger the buy-back clause in his contract this summer.

The Mexican ace was sold by the Gunners to his current side in 2012, ending a largely unsuccessful period in north London.

Although he had been dubbed a flop at the Emirates Stadium, Vela has since thrived in La Liga, with his goals helping to fire Real Sociedad into last season’s Champions League and establish the club in the upper echelons of the division.

This has led to talk that Arsene Wenger is considering giving his former youngster a second chance, with a clause to bring him back for £3.5m having been inserted into the deal that took him to Sociedad.

When asked about the clause and a return to Arsenal, Vela is quoted by the Daily Star as having said:

“It changes a lot.

“During the last two summers, Arsenal were not interested in activating it, so we had no trouble,

“It makes sense they will activate the clause now. A club that sees that a player is performing well for three years and has the chance of having him back for just an extra million.

“If Arsenal wouldn’t pay that amount they wouldn’t be very intelligent. If we put ourselves in their position we will do the same.

“Now, we have to analyse what can be done and how it can be done. And after putting everything in order, we will make a decision about my future; trying to choose the best way to be happy.”

Vela went on to say that he feels he will be more able to settle at Arsenal than he was in his first spell if he returns:

“If I have to return to London, I will try to make things in a different way in order so that happened in the past won’t be repeated again.

“Now I speak English. I know what I would find there and what I won’t, so I could handle my return in a different way.”
