Iker-Casillas

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to keep World Cup winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu, despite the Spaniard being linked to a move to ArsenalTalkSPORT reports.

Casillas, 32, spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after suffering a hand injury which kept him out of action for twelve weeks. He then struggled to return to the staring XI after some incredible performances from second choice goalkeeper Diego Lopez, being benched following his return under Jose Mourinho, and has since continued to be in the shadow of Lopez following the arrival of Ancelotti in the summer.

But despite being linked with a move to North London, the former AC Milan and Chelsea manager wants Spain’s number one goalkeeper to stay.

“I haven’t talked to him about leaving,” Ancelotti said.

“He’s a great keeper and a great professional.

“Even if he doesn’t play he helps the team, he’s a true captain.

“I hope he stays because he’s good for the atmosphere. I need to talk to him because it’s only fair, but he looks happy to me and he’s been very professional.”

Casillas played 29 games last season for Los Blancos; the lowest amount of games his has played in one season for Madrid since making his début in 1999.
