Mattia-Perin

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has expressed an interest in signing Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin in the summer, according to the player’s agent.

Sky Sports have reported that Arsenal are among the favourites to sign the highly rated stopper who is currently on loan at Pescara and attracting plaudits from many in Italy.

Perin is an Italian international and has been tipped to succeed Gianluigi Buffon for the Azzurri in years to come.

Perin’s agent Matteo Roggi has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in his client along with Barcelona, AC Milan and Juventus leaving Wenger with a real battle on his hands if he wants to get his man.

Wenger is losing faith in current number one Wojceich Szczesny after a number of sub-par performances this season and Perin could be seen as the next big ‘keeper in Europe.

Agent Roggi expects Perin to still be with Genoa come the start of next season but his long term future is expected to lie with one of Europe’s top sides.

“There are many clubs interested in him: Arsenal, Barcelona, AC Milan. It has also been said about Juventus, Napoli and Roma,” Roggi told tuttomercatoweb.com

“Currently, however, there is only one certainty about Mattia’s future: he will return to Genoa at the end of his loan and there is a mutual intention for him to spend at least one season in a Genoa shirt.

“Just a month ago we extended his contract until 2017 and Mattia’s cost is at least €20 million.

“I am 99 per cent sure he will be Genoa’s goalkeeper next season.”
