Sao Paulo confident of signing Arsenal star
Brazilian giants Sao Paulo believe that on-loan Arsenal midfielder Denilson will join the club permanently at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old spent five years in the Premier League before heading back to his homeland in 2011.
Despite making over 150 appearances for the North London club, he is expected to be allowed to leave, should an acceptable offer made.
With the player himself keen to conclude a deal, Sao Paulo feel that they can secure his permanent in the near future:
“I believe we’ll reach an agreement with Arsenal,” club vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes is quoted by UOL, via Sky Sports.
“We have heard from Denilson that he doesn’t want to return to England, that he wants to stay here with us.
“I think our relations with Arsenal will help that to happen.”
Denilson initially left Sao Paulo to join Arsenal, after graduating from their academy, in 2006.
He quickly became a first-team regular at the Emirates Stadium thanks to his creativity and reading of the game.
However, injuries and the emergence of a number of rivals in his position limed Denilson’s playing time, persuading him to return to Brazil ahead of the 2011/12 season.
