Much of the discontent which surrounded Arsenal this season was their lack of a viable alternative to Olivier Giroud up front. The Frenchman performed admirably, but he had difficult spells, having to shoulder too much responsibility at times.

Arsenal players and fans alike are under no illusions that the club are in need of somebody to partner, or replace, Giroud in the side. The ability to rotate should preserve a freshness which Giroud didn’t enjoy last season.

If Wenger wishes to match Arsenal’s ambitions, and attempt a more long-lasting Premier League title challenge, then bringing in more support up top is a must. The World Cup presents itself as an ideal shop window, if a slightly pricey one, and there are plenty of potentials buys out there for Wenger.
