United and Arsenal battle to sign Dortmund ace
The revelation of a £30million release clause in Mario Gotze’s contract has alerted both Manchester United and Arsenal, who are hoping to bring the 20-year-old German international to the Premier League.
The long-term transfer target of the Gunners progressed through the Dortmund youth system before breaking into the first team on his debut – 21 November 2009 – against Mainz 05.
So far this season Gotze has impressed throughout Borussia Dortmund’s European campaign, recently scoring in their 4-1 win over Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena to help the German outfit book a place in the last 16 of the Champions league.
A hand written offer must be handed to the Bundesliga champions by April to successfully activate the clause, reports The Daily Mail.
Although, the Premier League duo face stiff competition from Real Madrid. The Mirror reports that Manchester City are interested in signing unsettled Real midfielder Mesut Ozil, which could possibly pave the way for Gotze’s arrival at the Bernabeu.
Gotze’s contract at the Westfalenstadion runs until 2016, so a move will be a protracted and expensive one for any buying club.
