Arsene Wenger has hit back at pundits who claim Arsenal do not have the staying power to mount a serious title challenge, reports the Daily Mail.

Wenger’s side go into tonight’s clash with Hull City sitting four points clear at the top of the table over nearest rivals Chelsea.

But despite their excellent start to the season, Match of the Day pundits Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and Danny Mills have expressed their doubts as to whether Wenger’s side can stay there until the end of the season.

“Sometimes I watch them. Sometimes it’s just someone saying their opinion without an argument,” Wenger said.

“If it’s something based on hate or love or just gut feeling then I just say, ‘OK, it’s an opinion — he might be right, he might be wrong’.

“If you just say, ‘Arsenal won’t win the championship because they haven’t won it for eight years’ then it’s just an opinion.

“When I arrived here people explained I couldn’t win the title as I am foreign. Everybody has their own logic. I just think you win the title through your quality.

“If we didn’t win for eight years it is because we weren’t good enough. We have a good opportunity to show we are good enough, so let’s take it.”

Arsenal go into tonight’s game without Bacary Sagna, after the Frenchman was ruled out with a hamstring problem.

Carl Jenkinson is likely to deputise, while Lukas Podolski is set to return to training this week after missing the last three months with a hamstring injury.
