Aston Villa have completed the signing of Yacouba Sylla from French Ligue 2 club Clermont Foot.

The 22-year-old midfield player has passed a medical and only the formalities remain, with both clubs due to finalise paperwork before Sylla’s registration is lodged with the Premier League and the transfer receives international clearance. Mere formalities await completion before the young Frenchman joins Paul Lambert’s troops in their relegation battle.

Sylla has featured for the France U21 team and he has attracted interest not only from other Premier League clubs but also French Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga teams.

He will train tomorrow at Bodymoor Heath with his new team-mates and will be eligible to play against Everton on Saturday at Goodison Park.
